The personal and business benefits of engaging with a staff network group – A new resource from Transport for London (TfL)
Starting Out / Case Study

We’ve had a number of discussions with our ambassadors and members about how to engage volunteers with their staff networks. Giles Barker, Chair of the Staff Network Group for Disability at Transport for London has produced this resources to help address this issue.
Giles explained: “The mind map was created to capture and agree the benefits of the Staff Network Groups. This helps when you are recruiting new members, at any level, so you can focus the marketing message on the “why” – i.e. how will it benefit the individual if they take on the challenge rather than (the rather dreary) “what” are your responsibilities”.
The resource shows a maturity model of levels of involvement in a network and indicates the professional development skills which might be achieved from being an active member of a staff network. The further up the maturity model the more both the staff member and the company benefit.
1. Awareness of the group
2. Reading material, coming along to
