Disabled employee network/resource group leaders are often involved in conversations with individuals who find it hard to talk about their disability/health condition.Having to share any information about ourselves with others can be a frightening situation. What will people do with the information that has been shared? Will it help them to be the best they can be? Or will they use it to undermine them? Whichever decision individuals make to share information (consciously or subconsciously) they will do it by weighing up the potential gain against the perceived risk.This paper is to designed to support you and your members understand why sharing information and being open in the workplace will allow you to bring your authentic self to work, and why lack of openness can create mistrust, lead to hidden agendas and be detrimental to you and to the people you work or live with.
